Congrats Urban Hero!

Congratulations to Shanelle, student of NYWC who was honored by the Catalog for Giving as a 2014 Urban Hero! NYWC is a proud member organization of the Catalog and a recipient of vital resources that allow our programs to continue to help at risk youth stay in school and discover their artistic potential.

In Shanelle's own words about NYWC delivered at the October 7th event she said, "I learned to be a leader, never give up, and always strive to do my best!"

Special Visit by Councilwoman Cumbo

September 2014

Students met with Councilwoman Cumbo on their own turf and heard an empowering message to follow their dreams, achieve their goal of graduation and the importance of community service. Ms. Cumbo shared her own story of growing up in Brooklyn and work in the public sector. It was also an opportunity to discuss the anti-gun violence documentary students are producing this semester funded through a New York City Council Discretionary Award. THANK YOU!

NYWC thanks Swizz Beatz for participating in Cantor Fitzgerald's annual charity event on September 11th. Millions raised will benefit hundreds of organizations including Catalog for Giving and NYWC. Special thanks to our board member Leslie Morioka for helping make this possible.
